The
Best Cardio Machines for Fat Loss
By Dale Andrew
I'm often asked
which are the best cardio machines for fat loss. Simply
put some cardio machines are better for burning fat and
boosting metabolism.
Let's look at
the "big three" popular cardio machines:
-
Ellipticals
- I've got a saying about the ellipticals that may offend
everyone that uses one, but I really don't care: "Fat
people use the elliptical." Yep, I said
it. Unless you've got a bum knee, you shouldn't be
on this thing. It uses way too much momentum and it
doesn't help you on a functional everyday level, whatsover.
-
Bike - This
is one of my faves. Even if
you are overweight and can't support your bodyweight on
the treadmill, you can get a lot of fat burning done on
the bike. Stationary bikes can be set up to allow you to
do a large amount of mechanical work during your interval
training. One
other note, stick to the upright bike, as when using a
recumbent bike for intervals, your hips tend to rock too
much and your body tries to get into awkward positions in
order to push hard against the resistance.
-
Treadmill -
For most people, this is the best choice. The
treadmill can burn up to 16-20 calories per minute of
exercise during your workout! That's a big burn, but of
course only advanced fitness levels can achieve that - but
hopefully you fit that category now or you will someday
with consistent training and nutrition. Some important
tips: Don't go crazy with the incline (as that can lead to
tight calves), but if you are able to run at more than
10mph, use a 1% incline to help offset the need for
speed.
Not every gym
has a rowing machine or a stairmaster, but they are
incredible. Once you've been working out regularly for a
few weeks and are feeling better, use these to add variety to
your program and remind you of how far you have to go!
The
10% Factor
By Dr. John Berardi
If
some people eat one food not on their plan, their failure to
be perfect sets in motion a psychological chain of events that
leads to frustration and the inability to get right back on
the plan. The all-or-nothing mentality sets in and BAM,
they're back to nothing. But it doesn't have to be this way.
100% nutritional discipline is never required for optimal
progress. The difference, in results, between 90% adherence to
your nutrition program and 100% adherence is negligible. So
allow yourself the extra 10% wiggle room. This will allow you
the freedom to eat a few extra things not on your menu without
the guilt and subsequent crash.
When
it comes to nutrition, JB is the expert I turn to - and for good
reason - he has a Ph.D. in Kinesiology (with a specialization in
Exercise and Nutritional Biochemistry), has authored more than
200 articles, launched the nutrition
system
that
is rapidly becoming the industry standard and oh yeah, long
before all that, he was the 1995 Mr. Jr. USA Bodybuilding
champion.

Do
You Want this Kid Telling You What to Eat? By
Ryan Lee, CSCS

Did you know that in many nutritional supplement stores, the
clerks are told to push certain products that carry the highest
commission?(I won't mention their names, but you can guess who
they might be!)
It's really sad that millions of people rely on these unqualified
clerks for nutritional advice.
BIG TIPPOFF!
If a clerk starts telling you about some 'hot new fat burner' or
even mentions the word 'stack' - run, my friend. Run like the wind
right out of that store and don't ever look back!
If you are fed up with the industry and all the hype - then
